Red lentil dip

Thinking about making homemade hummus but want to try something different from the classic recipe?
Here’s a twist on traditional hummus — same creamy texture, but made with red lentils instead of chickpeas. Just as quick to prepare as the original, this colorful spread brings a fresh take to your appetizer routine and might just make you fall in love with red lentils.

Our secret? A few sun-dried tomatoes, a hint of Espelette pepper, and a generous spoonful of our Yusto nutritional yeast to bring everything together!

160g red lentils
12 sun-dried tomatoes
80g tahini
15g Yusto
1 garlic clove
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 lemon juice
3 pinches Espelette chili pepper
1 grind of pepper
1 small handful of flat-leaf parsley
1 handful of pomegranate seeds

Matériel

  • Stovetop
  • Blender / Food processor 
  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Cook the lentils in boiling water for 6–7 minutes.
  3. Drain the lentils and transfer them to a blender or food processor.
  4. Add the sun-dried tomatoes, tahini, Yusto, garlic clove, olive oil (you can use the oil from the sun-dried tomatoes if they’re packed in oil), lemon juice, and Espelette pepper (or any chili you have on hand).
  5. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  6. Season with freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  7. Refrigerate for a few hours to let the hummus cool and firm up.

     

  8. For serving, drizzle with a bit of olive oil, sprinkle with chopped flat-leaf parsley and/or coriander, and add a few pomegranate seeds.
  9. Enjoy with bread, crunchy vegetables, or our homemade seed crackers!
